Youth Health Care for a new era

Strengthening Youth Health Care practice in Europe requires that the main health priorities for infants, young children, schoolchildren and students be acknowledged and acted on, and that they be taught both to new students and to fieldworkers.
A supportive framework for Youth Health Care requires strong and responsive government leadership and adequate resources for personnel and infrastructure, completed by research, teaching, and services that use the full range of sciences related to health care for children and youngsters.
It is the aim of EUSUHM to strengthen European organisations that are involved in Youth Health Care, and also fieldworkers, in their efforts to respond to the actual and future health challenges of the young population. The selection of a set of minimal competencies for graduate and postgraduate training programmes, the development of guidelines for good practice, and the outline of quality standards for health services for children and youngsters are important prerequisites for the quality of the Youth Health Care for the next era.
The EUSUHM Congress 2005 in Dubrovnik will be a challenging meeting place for all professionals being involved in the promotion of a healthier youth in Europe . Be there, and take the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with your European colleagues.

Karel Hoppenbrouwers
President of the EUSUHM
